Biography
Prof. Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan is a distinguished legal scholar and Professor at the School of Criminal Justice & Administration at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata.[reference:0] His inspiring journey from a sidewalk vendor to a respected professor of law is a testament to his grit, determination, and love for education. During the 1980s, he started selling sarees on the sidewalk of Esplanade and studied late into the night, eventually completing his graduation from South Calcutta Law College and his LL.B from Calcutta University.[reference:1][reference:2]
He serves as the General Secretary of the Indo-British Scholars Association, British Council, Kolkata, and is associated with several other organizations on a voluntary basis.[reference:3] He is also the founder of Saket Public School, where he provides free education to underprivileged children.[reference:4]
Dr. Khan holds an LL.M from NUJS, Kolkata (2003), an LL.M in International Human Rights from the University of Essex, UK (2005) as a British Chevening Scholar, and an M.Phil from NUJS, Kolkata.[reference:5] He was awarded the prestigious British Chevening Human Rights Scholarship in 2004 and the International Visitor Leadership Fellowship by the U.S. Government in 2007.[reference:6]
His research focuses on criminal justice administration, human rights, anti-human trafficking law, and alternative dispute resolution.[reference:7] He has authored several books including "Rights of the Victims: Reparation by International Criminal Court", "Lok-Adalat: An Effective ADR Mechanism", and co-authored "Justice to Victims of Crime".[reference:8] He has also published numerous articles in leading law journals.[reference:9]
Dr. Khan is a passionate educator and has taught various courses to LL.B students, serves as visiting faculty, and has delivered lectures and talks at numerous national and international forums.[reference:10] He has also opened a school where around 60 students from adjoining slum areas get free education.[reference:11]
